COBH MAIN DRAINAGE SCHEME

COBH MAIN DRAINAGE SCHEME

Project Description:

The Cobh main drainage project included 4 no. marine combined services outfalls discharging into Cork Harbour. The HDPE outfall pipes varied in size between 250 to 900mm in diameter, extending between 13 to 250m from landside. Bespoke structural and buoyancy design solutions were required at each outfall, to meet unique and complex geotechnical, tidal current, erosion, wave action, and sedimentation design parameters.
LCE undertook the lead civil and structural design role for all marine outfalls.

Scope Description:

  • Liaising with Cork Harbour Master

  • Site investigation scoping and procurement

  • Pipe design

  • Detailed FEA settlement analysis in 7m of very soft silt

  • Pipeline ballast and stability design to DNV and PDS010

  • Seabed evolution assessment

  • Hydrodynamic load assessment (Wave & Current)

  • Rock armour revetment/scour protection design to CIRIA guidance

  • Design of a bespoke 35ton floating concrete structure to support the outfall diffusers 250m into Cobh harbour
